Why you must discover your true self to achieve your innate potential
Contemplate the untapped potential within you. Could you be a lion residing among sheep misled into believing you are less than you truly are? It's a question worth exploring as you journey on the path of self-discovery.
This false sense of security hampers the
realization of our true potential.
Here is a story to illustrate
the point.
In the shadow of
a towering mountain, there existed a peaceful meadow where a contented herd of
sheep lived harmoniously, feasting on the lush, green grass.
One sunny morning, near a tall oak tree, a peculiar sight caught the attention of a
curious ewe —a small lump of copper-colored fur lay there.
Approaching
cautiously, the ewe nudged the lump gently, attempting to discern what it was.
The other sheep,
intrigued by this unusual sight, gathered around, their curiosity piqued, yet a
sense of caution held them back. Who
knew what dangers lurked in this seemingly innocent lump?
The ewe, ever so
gently, prodded the furry mass with her nose,
but it remained motionless.
However, she
noticed its chest rising and falling with each breath, a sign of life. Deciding to investigate further, she lay down beside the
mysterious lump,offering warmth
and companionship in the hope that it would awaken.
Growing weary of waiting, the rest of the sheep gradually
dispersed, taking advantage of the tender grass nearby for grazing.
As the day turned
into night, the small furry bundle began to stir.
The ewe, by now quite attached to the little creature,
lovingly licked its face.
It nuzzled closer,
finding warmth and comfort, and soon began to drink the ewe's milk.
Time passed, and
the ewe continued to care for this newfound friend, treating it as one of their
own within the herd.
It became apparent
to all that this creature was unlike any sheep they had ever seen.It stood taller than even the largest ram, its coat
resembling the colors of a warm summer sunset. The animal had a broader copper-colored face with a mouth
adorned with prominent, sharp teeth.
Yet, despite these
differences, it moved and grazed just like the rest of the sheep.
This peculiar
being was a lion, but having spent its life among sheep, it knew only their
ways.
Unfamiliar with
the true nature of a lion, the sheep innocently accepted their unusual
companion into their fold, coexisting peacefully in the same meadow, sharing
their lives.
The lioness, for
that was what she was, became adept at identifying potential threats. She assumed the
role of a guardian, watchful during the night and leading the herd during the
day.
One fateful day, a startling sound echoed across the
meadow, sending a ripple of fear through the herd. Instinctively, they huddled together, seeking safety, except
for the copper-colored lioness.
The lioness stood her
ground, turning towards the source of the noise.
The ewe, anxious for her safety, bleated out a warning, but
the lioness remained resolute, approaching the unfamiliar beast.
Out from behind the tree emerged the largest beast the
herd had ever witnessed. The lioness boldly advanced, stopping mere inches away
from the colossal creature.
The herd shivered
in fear, uncertain of what would unfold.
The lioness
maintained her fearless gaze, unflinching and unafraid.A peculiar understanding seemed to pass between them.
The colossal beast nodded its head and proceeded towards
a nearby stream. The lioness, undeterred, followed.
As the stranger
drank from the stream the lioness saw her own reflection and, glancing at the
stranger's face in the still water noticed the
resemblance.
It was a startling
revelation.
Startled and
bewildered, she retreated towards the herd, but the immense beast blocked her
path. It roared, and
while the others heard only terrifying sounds, the lioness comprehended its
message: "Embrace
your true self.
You've grown up
with this sheep herd, but you've grown into a beautiful lion. Lions
are strong, independent, and brave. There's a world beyond this safe
meadow, and you can explore it.
Come with
me."
The lioness had always sensed her uniqueness among the
sheep. However, having been raised as one of them, she
had grown accustomed to their way of life.
She cherished the
herd's sense of security, but desired to roam higher, to explore beyond, inspired
by the calls in the wind that stirred a restlessness within her, a yearning she
couldn't quite grasp.
A choice lay
before her —to cling to the safety of her learned sheepish ways or to honor her true nature and venture into a new world.
The wise ewe
stepped forward, sharing her story.
"Many years ago, I found you, almost
lifeless, beneath a bush. I couldn't bear to see you starve. So, I nursed you, keeping you warm in the
safety of the herd.
Now is the time for you to forge your path,
make your own choices, separate from the herd. You've always
contributed here, and now it's time to make your mark out there.
I knew this day
would come, and now that it has, I can
say I'm proud of youYou carry everything you need within you.
Use it
wisely."
The lioness, deeply moved, gently nuzzled the ewe's
muzzle and bowed her head in gratitude to the herd. Then, she turned to the colossal lion, and together, they
embarked towards the mountains, guided by the whispers of the wind.
"The Lion and the Sheep" serves
as a timeless parable. It gives a message to realize your true self, challenging
preconceived notions.
It's a question worth exploring as you
journey on the path of self-discovery.
